Hysteroscopic Fibroid Polyp Resection
This educational hysteroscopy video demonstrates the resection of a giant prolapsed fibroid polyp in a 30-year-old woman presenting with heavy menstrual bleeding. Diagnostic hysteroscopy is first performed to identify the exact origin of the fibroid stalk and confirm that it arises from the uterine cavity rather than the cervix. Using a bipolar resectoscope, the surgeon progressively shaves the thick pedicle while applying gentle vaginal traction to facilitate safe detachment. Following removal of the fibroid, the remaining stalk is completely excised and the feeding vessel is coagulated to achieve excellent haemostasis. The video also compares this approach with conventional twisting techniques and explains the advantages of hysteroscopic surgery in preventing postoperative haemorrhage. This is an excellent learning resource for gynecologists managing large prolapsed fibroid polyps.
